ETFGI reports that assets invested in ETFs and ETPs listed in Japan increased by a record US$83 billion during 2017, to a new high of US$256 billion at the end of October
LONDON — November 22, 2017 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in Japan increased by a record $82.9 billion during the first 10 months of 2017, to reach a new high of US$256 billion at the end of October.
According to ETFGI’s October 2017 Japan ETF and ETP industry insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service, assets invested in Japanese-listed ETFs and ETPs grew by US$82.9 Bn year-to-date, or 47.8%, the largest absolute annual increase on record; eclipsing the previous record increase of US$46.8 Bn for the whole of 2015.
Year-to-date, through end of October 2017, ETFs and ETPs listed in Japan saw record net inflows of US$43.8 Bn; 25.2% more than net inflows for the whole of 2016, and 25.3% more than that of the previous YTD record for the same period of US$35.0 Bn set in October 2015.
The majority of these flows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered US$45.4 Bn during 2017. The TOPIX Exchange Traded Fund (1306 JP) on its own accounted for net inflows of US$13.5 Bn.
