ETFGI reports that assets invested in actively-managed ETFs and ETPs listed globally increased by a record US$21.9 billion during 2017, to a new high of US$65.8 billion at the end of October
LONDON — November 29, 2017 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that assets invested in actively-managed ETFs/ETPs listed globally increased by a record US$21.9 billion during the first 10 months of 2017, to reach a new high of US$65.8 billion at the end of October.
According to ETFGI’s October 2017 Active ETF and ETP industry insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service, assets invested in actively-managed ETFs and ETPs grew by US$21.9 Bn year-to-date, the largest absolute annual increase on record; eclipsing the previous record increase of US$9.40 Bn for the whole of 2016. The increase of 49.9%, from US$43.9 Bn at the end of 2016 to a record high of US$65.8 Bn at the end of October 2017, also represents the greatest proportional annual increase in assets since 2012.
Year-to-date, through end of October 2017, ETFs and ETPs listed in the US saw record net inflows of US$13 Bn; 91% more than net inflows for the whole of 2016, and more than double that of the previous YTD record for the same period of US$5 Bn set in October 2015.
October 2017 also marked the 20st consecutive month of net inflows into US-listed ETFs/ETPs, with nearly $2B gathered during the month.
The majority of these flows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered US$10.7 Bn during 2017. The PIMCO Enhanced Short Maturity Strategy Fund on its own accounted for net inflows of more than $2B US.

Similarly, the top 10 actively managed ETPs by net new assets collectively gathered US$ 8.6 Bn year-to-date during 2017.
US-listed Equity ETFs/ETPs saw net inflows of $.6 Bn in October, bringing year-to-date net inflows to $3.7 Bn, which is greater than the net inflows of $.10Bn over the same period last year. Fixed income ETFs and ETPs experienced net inflows of $1.2 Bn in October, growing year-to-date net inflows to $9Bn, which is greater than the same period last year, which saw net inflows of $4.3 Bn.
