ETFGI reports that assets invested in ETFs listed in Canada increased by a record US$24.9 billion during 2017, to a new high of US$109 billion at the end of October

LONDON — November 22, 2017 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that assets invested in ETFs listed in Canada increased by a record $24.9 billion during the first 10 months of 2017, to reach a new high of US$109 billion at the end of October.

 

According to ETFGI’s October 2017 Canada ETF and ETP industry insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service, assets invested in Canadian-listed ETFs grew by US$24.9 Bn year-to-date, the largest absolute annual increase on record; eclipsing the previous record increase of US$19.8 Bn for the whole of 2016.

 

 

Year-to-date, through end of October 2017, ETFs listed in Canada saw record net inflows of US$15.0 Bn; 18.1% more than net inflows for the whole of 2016, and 45.1% more than the previous YTD record for the same period of US$10.4 Bn, set in October 2016.

 

The majority of these flows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered US$8.20 Bn during 2017. The BMO Aggregate Bond Index ETF (ZAG CN) on its own accounted for net inflows of US$743 Mn.

Canada-listed equity ETFs saw net inflows of $1.27 Bn in October, bringing year-to-date net inflows to $7.67 Bn, which is greater than the net inflows of $4.63 Bn over the same period last year.
