ETFGI reports that Smart Beta ETFs and ETPs listed globally gathered net inflows of US$4.91 billion during June 2018
LONDON — July 31, 2018 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported net inflows of US$4.91 billion into Smart Beta ETFs and ETPs listed globally during June 2018, marking the 29th consecutive month of net inflows. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)

- Net new assets gathered by Smart Beta ETFs/ETPs listed globally were $4.91 Bn during June 2018.
- June 2018 marked the 29th consecutive month of net inflows.
- Year-to-date assets invested in Smart Beta ETFs/ETPs listed globally increased by 4.59% to $635 Bn at the end of June.
According to ETFGI’s June 2018 Smart Beta ETF and ETP Insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service, assets invested in Smart Beta ETFs and ETPs listed globally increased year-to-date by 4.59% at the end of June 2018.
Comparison of assets in market cap, smart beta, other and active equity products
At the end of June 2018, there were 1,224 smart beta equity ETFs/ETPs, with 2,204 listings, assets of $635 Bn, from 147 providers on 39 exchanges in 31 countries. Year-to-date net inflows are at $29.9 Bn, which is less than the $32.6 Bn in net inflows at this point last year.
The majority of flows can be attributed to the top 20 Smart Beta ETFs/ETPs, which collectively gathered $21.1 Bn year-to-date.
The iShares Edge MSCI USA Momentum Factor ETF (MTUM US) and the Vanguard Value ETF (VTV US) have gathered the largest net new assets during the year, with $3.43 Bn and $3.08 Bn, respectively.

Previously Deborah Fuhr served as global head of ETF research and implementation strategy and as a managing director at BlackRock/Barclays Global Investors from 2008 – 2011. She also worked as a managing director and head of the investment strategy team at Morgan Stanley in London from 1997 – 2008, and as an associate at Greenwich Associates.
She has been working with investors, ETF, ETP providers, index providers, exchanges, MMs and APs, regulators, trade associations, custodians, law firms, accounting firms around the world since 1997.
