ETFGI reports the global ETFs industry gathered US$ 116 billion in net inflows during October 2022

LONDON — November 18, 2022 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs/ETPs ecosystem, reported today that the global ETFs industry gathered US$116.12 billion in net inflows during October, bringing year-to-date net inflows to US$708.37 billion. During October 2022, assets invested in the global ETFs industry increased by 6.2%, from US$8.35 trillion at the end of September to US$8.87 trillion at the end of October, according to ETFGI's October 2022 global ETFs and ETPs industry landscape insights report, the monthly report which is part of an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted)

  • Global ETFs industry gathered net inflows of $116.12 Bn during October.
  • YTD net inflows of $708.37 Bn are the 2nd highest on record, after YTD 2021 net inflows of $1.04 Tn.
  • 41st month of consecutive net inflows.
  • Assets of $8.87 Tn invested in global ETFs industry at the end of October 2022.

“The S&P 500 increased by 8.10 % in October but is down by 17.70% YTD in 2022. Developed markets excluding the US increased by 5.33% in October but are down 23.78% YTD in 2022. Norway (up 11.51%) and Ireland (up 10.52 %) saw the largest increases amongst the developed markets in October. Emerging markets decreased by 3.54% during October and are down 26.60% YTD in 2022. China (down 14.74%) saw the largest decrease amongst emerging markets in October.” According to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder and owner of ETFGI.

Global ETF and ETP assets as of the end of October 2022

The Global ETFs industry had 10,954 products, with 22,691 listings, assets of $8.87 Tn, from 661 providers listed on 81 exchanges in 63 countries at the end of October.

During October, the global ETFs industry gathered net inflows of $116.12 Bn. Equity ETFs/ETPs gathered net inflows of $76.14 Bn during October, bringing YTD net inflows to $410.06 Bn, lower than the $715.29 Bn in net inflows equity products had attracted at this point in 2021. Fixed income ETFs/ETPs had net inflows of $34.94 Bn during October, bringing YTD net inflows to $182.99 Bn, lower than the $194.61 Bn in net inflows fixed income products had attracted by the end of October 2021. Commodities ETFs/ETPs reported net outflows of $5.85 Bn during October, bringing YTD net outflows to $13.10 Bn, more than the $10.85 Bn in net outflows commodities products had reported year to date in 2021. Active ETFs/ETPs attracted net inflows of $11.04 Bn over the month, gathering net inflows for the year of $99.86 Bn, lower than the $121.02 Bn in net inflows active products had reported YTD in 2021.

Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $58.68 Bn during October. SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY US) gathered $14.55 Bn, the largest individual net inflow.
