
ETFGI reports the ETFs industry in Europe gathered a record 270.42 billion US dollars in net inflows during 2024
LONDON — January 20, 2025 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm renowned for its expertise in subscription research, consulting services, events, and ETF TV on global ETF industry trends, reports the ETFs industry in Europe gathered a record US$270.42 billion in net inflows during 2024. During December the ETFs industry in Europe gathered net inflows of US$32.91 billion, bringing 2024 net inflows to a record US$270.42 billion, according to ETFGI's December 2024 European ETFs and ETPs industry landscape insights report, the monthly report which is part of an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)
Highlights
- Record $270.42 Bn in net inflows in 2024, the second highest full year net inflows was $193.46 Bn in 2021 and the third highest full year net inflows was $155.91 Bn in 2023.
- Assets of $2.27 Tn invested in the ETFs industry Europe at the end of December 2024 are the second highest on record, below the record high assets of $2.29 Tn in November 2024.
- Assets invested in the ETFs industry in Europe increased 25.0% in 2024, going from $1.82 Tn at end of 2023 to $2.27 Tn.
- 27th month of consecutive net inflows.
“The S&P 500 index decreased by 2.38% in December but was up by 25.02% in 2024. The developed markets excluding the US index decreased by 2.78% in December but is up 3.81% in 2024. Denmark (down 12.34%) and Australia (down 7.90%) saw the largest decreases amongst the developed markets in December. The emerging markets index increased by 0.19% during December and is up 11.96% in 2024. United Arab Emirates (up 6.42%) and Greece (up 4.21%) saw the largest increases amongst emerging markets in December.” According to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder, and owner of ETFGI.
Growth in assets in the ETFs industry in Europe at the end of 2024
The ETFs industry in Europe had 3,107 products, with 12,907 listings, assets of $2.27 trillion, from 107 providers listed on 29 exchanges in 24 countries at the end of December.
During December, ETFs gathered net inflows to $32.91 Bn. Equity ETFs gathered net inflows of $26.99 Bn over December, bringing 2024 net inflows to $201.58 Bn, higher than the $93.31 Bn in net in 2023. Fixed income ETFs had net inflows of $3.88 Bn during December, bringing 2024 net inflows to $56.86 Bn, lower than the $65.14 Bn in net inflows in 2023. Commodities ETFs reported net outflows of $758.66 Mn during December, bringing 2024 net outflows to $7.64 Bn, lower than the $9.27 Bn in net outflows in 2023. Active ETFs attracted net inflows of $2.88 Bn over the month, gathering net inflows in 2024 of $19.94 Bn, higher than the $7.29 Bn in net inflows in 2023.
Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $26.16 Bn during December. Amundi S&P 500 II UCITS ETF USD (LSPU LN) gathered $4.33 Bn, the largest individual net inflow.
