ETFGI reports the global ETFs industry gathered net inflows of US$56.67 billion during April
LONDON — May 15, 2023 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs ecosystem, reported today the global ETFs industry gathered US$56.67 billion in net inflows in April 2023, bringing year to date net inflows to US$201.69 Bn. During April 2023, assets invested global ETFs industry increased by 1.2%, from US$9.89 trillion at the end of March to US$9.99 trillion, according to ETFGI's April 2023 global ETFs and ETPs industry landscape insights report, the monthly report which is part of an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted)
Highlights
- Global ETFs industry gathered net inflows of $56.67 Bn during April.
- YTD net inflows of $201.69 Bn are the third highest on record, after YTD net inflows of $464.19 Bn in 2021 and YTD net inflows of $337.31 Bn in 2022.
- 47th month of consecutive net inflows.
- $9.99 Tn invested in the global ETFs industry: 11,281 products, with 23,102 listings, listed on 81 exchanges in 63 countries.
- Assets increased 7.8% YTD in 2023, going from $9.26 Tn at end of 2022 to $9.99 Tn.
“The S&P 500 was up 1.56 % in April and is up by 9.17% in the first 4 months of 2023. Developed markets excluding the US increased by 2.45% in April and are up 10.41% YTD in 2023. Switzerland (up 6.41%) and United Kingdom (up 5.28%) saw the largest increases amongst the developed markets in April. Emerging markets decreased by 0.50% during April but are up 2.38% YTD in 2023. Turkey (down 4.79%) and Thailand (down 4.69%) saw the largest decreases amongst emerging markets in April.” According to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder, and owner of ETFGI.
Global ETF and ETP assets as of the end of April 2023
The Global ETFs industry had 11,281 products, with 23,102 listings, assets of $9.986 trillion, from 672 providers listed on 81 exchanges in 63 countries at the end of April.
During April, ETFs gathered net inflows of $56.67 Bn. Equity ETFs reported net inflows of $23.50 Bn in April, bringing YTD net inflows to $57.86 Bn, significantly lower than the $209.71 Bn in net inflows equity YTD in 2022. Fixed income ETFs gathered net inflows of $24.23 Bn during April, bringing net inflows YTD to $94.19 Bn, higher than the $46.17 Bn in net inflows YTD in 2022. Commodities ETFs/ETPs reported net inflows of $453 Mn during April, bringing YTD net inflows to $3.50 Bn, significantly lower than the $22.03 Bn in net inflows reported YTD in 2022. Active ETFs attracted net inflows of $7.36 Bn during the month, gathering net inflows for the year of $43.55 Bn, slightly lower than the $43.50 Bn in net inflows active products had reported YTD in 2022.
Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $30.01 Bn during April. Amundi MSCI World III (AHYQ GY) gathered $3.61 Bn, the largest individual net inflow.
