ETFGI reports the ETFs industry in Europe gathered 7.33 billion US dollars of net inflows in October 2022
LONDON —November 21, 2022 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs/ETPs ecosystem, reported today that the ETFs industry in Europe gathered net inflows of US$7.33 billion during October, bringing year-to-date net inflows to US$68.82 billion. During the month, assets invested in the European ETF/ETP industry increased by 5.1%, from US$1.26 trillion at the end of September to US$1.32 trillion, according to ETFGI's October 2022 European ETFs and ETPs industry landscape insights report, the monthly report which is part of an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)
- ETFs industry in Europe gathered $7.33 Bn in net inflows in October.
- YTD net inflows of $68.82 are significantly lower compared to the YTD net inflows in 2021 of $165.83 Bn.
- Assets of $1.32 Tn invested in ETFs and ETPs listed in Europe at the end of October.
- Assets decreased 17.4% YTD in 2022, going from $1.60 Tn at end of 2021 to $1.32 Tn.
“The S&P 500 increased by 8.10 % in October but is down by 17.70% YTD in 2022. Developed markets excluding the US increased by 5.33% in October but are down 23.78% YTD in 2022. Norway (up 11.51%) and Ireland (up 10.52 %) saw the largest increases amongst the developed markets in October. Emerging markets decreased by 3.54% during October and are down 26.60% YTD in 2022. China (down 14.74%) saw the largest decrease amongst emerging markets in October.” According to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder and owner of ETFGI.
Europe ETFs and ETPs asset growth as at the end of October 2022
The ETFs industry in Europe had 2,919 products, with 11,888 listings, assets of $1.32 Tn, from 95 providers listed on 29 exchanges in 24 countries at the end of October
During October, ETFs/ETPs gathered net inflows to US$7.33 billion. Equity ETFs/ETPs gathered net inflows of $3.05 Bn during October, bringing YTD net inflows to $46.12 Bn, lower than the $121.03 Bn in net inflows equity products had attracted at this point in 2021. Fixed income ETFs/ETPs reported net inflows of $4.84 Bn during October, bringing net inflows for the year through October 2022 to $23.00 Bn, lower than the $34.51 Bn in net inflows fixed income products had attracted by the end of October 2021. Commodities ETFs/ETPs reported net outflows of $1.14 Bn during October, bringing YTD net outflows to $3.65 Bn, lower than the $1.61 Bn in net inflows commodities products had reported year to date in 2021. Active ETFs/ETPs attracted net inflows of $712 Mn over the month, gathering net inflows for the year in Europe of $2.39 Bn, lower than the $4.91 Bn in net inflows active products had reported YTD in 2021.
Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $8.91 Bn during October. iShares Core € Corp Bond UCITS ETF (IEBC LN) gathered $1.84 Bn, the largest individual net inflow.
