ETFGI reports assets invested in the ETFs industry in Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) reached a new milestone of US$846.38 billion at the end of February

LONDONMarch 28, 2024— ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs ecosystem, reported today that the ETFs industry in Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) reached a milestone of US$846.38 billion at the end of February.   Net inflows of US$32.47 billion were gathered during February, bringing year-to-date net inflows to US$71.17 billion, according to ETFGI's February 2024 Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) ETFs and ETPs industry landscape insights report, the monthly report which is part of an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)



Highlights

  • Assets invested in ETFs industry in Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) reached a milestone of $846.38 Bn at the end of February beating the previous record of $784.24 Bn at the end of December 2023.
  • Assets increased by 7.9% YTD in 2024, going from $784.24 Bn at end of 2023 to $846.38 Bn.
  • Net inflows of $32.47 Bn during February.
  • YTD net inflows of $71.17 Bn are the highest record, the second highest recorded YTD net inflows are of $31.38 Bn in 2022, followed by YTD net inflows of $12.34 Bn in 2021.
  • 32nd month of consecutive net inflows.

“The S&P 500 index increased by 5.34% in February and is up by 7.11% YTD. Developed markets excluding the US increased by 1.90% in February and are up 1.58% YTD. Ireland (up 8.60%) and Israel (up 8.27%) saw the largest increases amongst the developed markets in February. Emerging markets increased by 4.18% during February and are up 0.57% YTD. China (up 8.41%) and Peru (up 7.12%) saw the largest increases amongst emerging markets in February”, according to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder, and owner of ETFGI.

 

 

ETFs industry in Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) asset growth as at the end of February

At the end of February, the ETFs industry in Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) had 3,278 products, with 3,454 listings, assets of $846.38 Bn, from 254 providers listed on 20 exchanges in 15 countries.

During February, ETFs gathered net inflows of $32.47 Bn. Equity ETFs gathered net inflows of $27.46 Bn during February, bringing YTD net inflows to $56.95 Bn, much higher than the $2.88 Bn in net outflows YTD in 2023. Fixed income ETFs had net inflows of $4.52 Bn during February, bringing YTD net inflows to $10.50 Bn, higher than the $2.91 Bn in net inflows YTD in 2023. Commodities ETFs/ETPs reported net inflows of $108.83 Mn during February, bringing YTD net inflows to $172.65 Mn, higher than the $136.58 Mn in net outflows YTD in 2023. Active ETFs had net inflows of $755.66 Mn during the month, gathering YTD net inflows of $3.54 Bn, higher than the $1.91 Bn in net inflows YTD in 2023.

Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $30.80 Bn during February. China CSI 500 ETF - Acc (510500 CH) gathered $4.03 Bn, the largest individual net inflow.
