ETFGI reports that currency hedged ETFs and ETPs listed globally gathered net inflows of US$100 million during June 2018
LONDON — July 31, 2018 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that currency hedged ETFs and ETPs listed globally gathered net new assets of US$100 million during June 2018. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)
Highlights
- Currency hedged ETFs and ETPs listed globally gathered net new assets of $100 Mn during June 2018.
- Currency hedged ETF/ETP assets have decreased by 2.06% year-to-date at the end of June to $143 Bn.
The S&P 500 was up 0.62% in June and 2.65% in the first half of 2018. International markets (developed ex US) and Emerging markets posted losses during June and during the first half of 2018, down 1.48% and 3.40% in June and 2.45% and 6.05% in the first half, respectively, driven by a strong dollar, trade concerns, and rising interest rates.
At the end of June 2018, the Global Currency Hedged ETF/ETP industry had 721 ETFs/ETPs, with 1,412 listings, assets of $143 Bn, from 68 providers on 28 exchanges in 21 countries. ETF/ETP assets have decreased by 2.06% from $146 Bn at the end of 2017.

The 721 currency hedged ETFs/ETPs included ETFs/ETPs hedged against 15 different currencies, with most assets tracking exposures hedged against the US Dollar. Currency hedged ETFs/ETPs listed in the United States had assets of $42.2 Bn, while European-listed products had $72.0 Bn. Canada- and Asia Pacific (ex-Japan)-listed products had $23.4 Bn and $3.76 Bn, respectively.
During 2018, the top 20 currency hedged ETFs/ETPs have collectively gathered $9.13 Bn.

Previously Deborah Fuhr served as global head of ETF research and implementation strategy and as a managing director at BlackRock/Barclays Global Investors from 2008 – 2011. She also worked as a managing director and head of the investment strategy team at Morgan Stanley in London from 1997 – 2008, and as an associate at Greenwich Associates.
