
ETFGI reports that assets invested in ETFs and ETPs listed in Europe increased by 2.13% during July 2018 to reach US$827 billion
LONDON — August 14, 2018 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that that assets invested in ETFs and ETPs listed in Europe increased by 2.13% during July 2018 to reach US$827 billion at the end of the month. The increase followed 5 months of assets declining from a high of US$858 billion at the end of January to a low of US$810 billion at the end of June. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)

- Yearto-date, assets have increased by 3.17% from $802 Bn at the end of 2017.
- In July 2018, ETFs/ETPs listed in Europe saw net inflows of $4.60 Bn.
According to ETFGI’s July 2018 Europe ETF and ETP industry insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service, assets have increased by 3.17% year-to-date, from $802 Bn at the end of 2017. At the end of July 2018, the European ETF/ETP industry had 2,320 ETFs/ETPs, with 7,845 listings, assets of $828 Bn, from 66 providers on 27 exchanges.

In July 2018, ETFs/ETPs listed in Europe saw net inflows of $4.60 Bn. Fixed income products gathered the largest net inflows with $2.74 Bn, while commodity ETFs/ETPs experienced the largest net outflows with $1.11 Bn. Year-to-date through end of July, ETFs/ETPs listed in Europe have seen net inflows of $37.0 Bn. Equity products gathered the largest net inflows with $24.7 Bn, while leveraged ETFs/ETPs experienced the largest net outflows with $829 Mn.
“The S&P 500 gained 3.72%, international markets ex-US were up 1.93% and emerging markets up 2.81%. Investors are still concerned about the impact of trade wars and Brexit,” according to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner and a founder of ETFGI.
Investors have tended to invest in core, market cap and lower cost ETFs during 2018, with the iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF (CSSPX SW) and iShares Core MSCI EM IMI UCITS ETF (EMIM LN) capturing flows of $2.19 Bn and $1.67 Bn, respectively. A high proportion of net inflows year-to-date can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $17.6 Bn.

Previously Deborah Fuhr served as global head of ETF research and implementation strategy and as a managing director at BlackRock/Barclays Global Investors from 2008 – 2011.
